Bromley developed as a result of its location on a coaching route furthered by the opening of a Railway Station in 1858. It grew into an important commercial center outside of central London. Since 1965 it is a part of Greater London.
Economy
Bromley forms one of the major metropolitan centres in the London Plan. Home to a large retail area Bromley includes a High Street and The Glades centre. The various restaurants include a small chain of Belgian-themed Belgo restaurants.
